29/5/2003 The corporation "Einschtein-group", having organized in 2000 the playing of the world championship on classical chess between the Russian grandmasters, Garry Kasparov and Vladimir Kramnik, admitted, that it was not in such condition to organize the widely advertised match between Kramnik and the Hungarian grandmaster, Peter Leko. From the press-release of the corporation, published on the site Chesscenter.com it goes, that owing to the political economic situation, having aggravated in the world (first of all, the War in Iraq), many potential sponsors have broken negotiations with "Einschtein-group", having lost the interest not only to chess tournaments on the higher level, but also to the largest competitions on other types of sport. The size of the prize fund, having offered by Budapest, has not also satisfied participants. Having marked, that the financial problems with the planned FIDE match Garry Kasparov - Ruslan Ponomariov (Ukraine) at the same time have been arisen and Buenos-Aires cannot allot one milion dollars for it's organization, "Einschtein-group" should admit, that it faces to a dilemma: to postpone the match Kramnik - Leko for an indefinite time or to pass the right for the playing of the world champion's title to the other party. | The unique videomatch is being played in Peter |
28/5/2003 Today in the limits of celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Northern capital the unique chess videomatch "Saint Petersburg-Paris NAO chess club" will be held.
This grandmasters' struggle for the first time in the chess history will be held according to the new technology, "SE" correspondent Alexander Kuzmin informs.
The team from Saint Petersburg (world champion of FIDE-99, Alexander Khalifman, Peter Svidler, Victor Korchnoi and Konstantin Sakaev) will be found in the building of the International press-center, and the French team (world champion on classical chess, Vladimir Kramnik, Teimour Radjabov, Laurent Fressinet and the youngest in the world grandmaster, 13-year Sergei Kariakin) - on the Fosch avenue, in the Parisian office of NAO chess club.
The main arbiter of the match, Dutch Gert Giyssen defined the color of figures on all four boards and a queue of games: Kariakin - Sakaev, Korchnoi - Fressinet, Radjabov - Svidler and Khalifman - Kramnik. Time control - 15 minutes per game plus 10 seconds for each made move. The world ex-champions Boris Spassky and Anatoly Karpov will act in the role of commentators in our country, and in Paris the leader of the French chess, Joel Lotier, will highlight the course of the struggle.
- The match is going to be unsimple, - Victor Korchnoi noticed on the eve of the game. - In fact, the combined team of Europe is opposed to us.
- It is the most curious competition, especially because the chess world hadn't for a long time conducted the matches on correspondence on such serious level, - Anatoly karpov said, who the day before was awarded by the diploma and mantle of the honourable professor of the economic department of the Saint Petersburg's university. - I am waiting for each game with interest. Karyakin and Sakaev - are the theory experts. The chances of Khalifman and Kramnik are equalized by the fact, that both of the chess players, on my opinion, are now in the slight crisis. Radjabov is making an impetuous progress, but Svidler has recently won the International tournament in Siberia. Korchnoi and Fressinet? As to the plan of chess understanding, everything is understood, and in case Victor Lvovich quickly thinks, he will won without problems.
